Recycling rubbish, taking shorter showers…these days we’re all becoming more aware for the need to be eco-friendly. Living a greener life and creating a more sustainable home is something everyone strives for but knowing where to start can be overwhelming.
Luckily there are small changes you can make in your home that are budget-friendly and don’t take a lot of time; but are efficient in turning your homes into an eco-friendly place.
Invest in a water saving showerhead
Water efficient shower heads have come a long way. These days you can still enjoy a powerful water flow with a water saving nozzle. A standard shower-head uses about 15 to 25 litres of water per minute, while a three-star-rated water-efficient shower-head uses as little as 6 or 7 litres per minute!
Invest in energy efficient light bulbs
Not only do they use less electricity, but they also don’t need to be replaced as often as regular, old fashioned light bulbs.
Eradicate plastic
To avoid wasting plastic bags, keep your fruit and veg loose when shopping. At home, transfer them into reusable breathable fabric bags that can be stacked in the fridge – they’ll stay crisper for longer!
Invest in blackout curtains and double-glazed windows
Investing in black-out curtains will not only help you sleep, but also work as a form of insulation. This is because they act to reduce heat in your home over summer and keep heat from escaping in winter. Investing in double-glazed windows in the building phase will also save you money by reducing energy costs as you won’t be spending as much on air conditioning and heating!
Add plants
Keeping indoor plants is a great way to green up your home. Not only do they look great, but they purify the air by acting as filter and removing common pollutants and toxins from the air.
